The city has taken over the project with the expiration of Community Block Development Grants, the resignation of three board members and termination of the staff due to inadequate funds.
The park is unfinished with the main road nearly complete, there is one company (a fish factory) ready to purchase and rumors of two others in the wings.
The mayor will hire an ecconomic director, replace vacant seats on the ARA board, complete the road, secure additional funding and all this is within his ability. However, while this additional workload is added to his office we are approaching mid year of the budget and a busy schedule ahead.

with the current economy – why are we pushing an industrial park?

I think the reason we are pushing an industrial park is because it is vitally important to bring new business into the city. Especially industrial business that will help take the burden off of the tax-payers. About 20 years ago – 30% of our tax base was industrial now it has dwindled down to 8.9%. The reason is to take the burden away from the homeowners.
