Public Hearing to Discuss Split Tax Rate

November 7, 2009

The council will be discussing the split tax rate in a public hearing on November 17th:

PUBLIC HEARING for the purposes of setting the tax classification so that the necessary votes can be taken to determine the percentage of the local tax levy to be borne by each class of property for fiscal year 2010.

Although I am not yet a city councilor, I welcome your thoughts and concerns.

In my full opinion, as a SA resident I have done a wealth of research on the split tax rate. I think it is very important that we DO NOT narrow the tax classification factor. We need to keep the rates the same and we need to keep the dual rate. Some will say that we need to do this to encourage business to the community. More business would come to the community if we had GOOD locations. Economic development needs to be a priority. Keep the rates the same!
